Welcome to Top of the World Elementary School!

My name is Tom Turner, and I am honored to serve as the new principal of this school community. With 25 years of experience in education, I am excited to collaborate with the dedicated staff, supportive parents, and enthusiastic students at TOW. I look forward to working together to ensure a wonderful and enriching experience for our students.

Before joining TOW, I spent nearly a decade at the Orange County Department of Education, where I served as the Executive Director of Educational Services focusing on enhancing education across the county by leading curriculum development, student achievement initiatives, and academic support programs. This role gave me a broad perspective on the educational landscape, fueling my passion to return to a school setting where I can make a more direct and personal impact.

Earlier in my career, I had the privilege of serving as principal of Portola Elementary School. During my tenure, I successfully implemented school-wide positive behavior programs and launched initiatives in project-based learning and STEAM education. These experiences have shaped my belief that education thrives when we place students at the heart of everything we do. I am deeply committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative community at Top of the World Elementary, where every child feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.

In addition to my professional experience, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southern California (USC) and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego. I am also a member of the State Bar of California.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family—my wife and two children. We’re an active family, often found at cross country and track meets, or exploring the outdoors. I also love traveling, reading, and making the most of the beautiful Southern California landscape.
